Homeschool Schedule 2017/18

I had some requests for my homeschool schedule when I said that I was planning on social media, so I thought I’d throw a post up here about so that we know that I schedule primarily so that I don’t plan too much (a terrible habit of mine), I don’t expect this schedule to be followed perfectly ever, Emma (14 and in 9th grade) may have to work after hours to finish things that don’t get done during this time. Even homeschooled high schoolers sometimes have “homework”. The boys are heavily scheduled because if they are not it will be overly noisy and possibly destructive not because I think 2 and 4 year olds need very many enrichment activities. I also schedule so that I have a time to handle the things that need to happen like math instruction. I expect to be interrupted many times in all of the other slots.

How I make my schedule: First, I list all of the subjects for each kid. Then, I work with them or my knowledge of them to figure out a time slot and create an order that flows well. I find the hard breaks in the day: starting time, lunch time, snack time, quiet time, dinner time. I fill in teaching times when I need to be hands on. Finally, I figure out what to do with the boys during all of those time periods.

Here is the schedule so far. I do not have piano lessons in here yet as I don’t know when they will be, but some things will move around then, I’ll update it when I get those in. This may also change when I know how long Emma’s work is taking her as it has changed for this year. Hannah’s is very similar, so I have a better idea for her. (Note: If you see a blank time, the activities of the previous time slot overlap, I couldn’t quite get that formatting right on the website) Let me know if you’re interested in seeing sample lesson plans as well. And please remember, that this would be a perfect day, and I haven’t had one of those in 36.25 years.

I see in the picture you have “Laying Down the Rails”. When/how do you incorporate this?

It’s really more of a reference for me. How are we doing, what do they/I need to work on? If I choose a focus, then I try to make that my focus in reminding/discipline or we talk about it a lot. It might be something that we change the routine to make it easier for ourselves.
