Mosquito Bite Remedy

Nobody likes itchy mosquito bites. When my girls get them, they would either complain about the itching or scratch themselves raw. Since I don’t usually have some insect bite medication available, I had to turn to my trusty old friend Google. This is what Google told me:

Put some rubbing alcohol on the insect bite. We put some on with a Q-tip like this.

Then, cover it up with scotch tape. Like this.

Now, the itching should be greatly reduced. You will probably have to change this out once a day or so, but it usually goes away within a day or two.

No rubbing alcohol? Purell or other hand sanitizers work well as a replacement.

Why does this work? As far as I can tell, it’s because the alcohol draws fluid out and dries the skin. This decreases the swelling and the itching. Why the tape? Well, it stops the itching begets itching cycle of itching causing skin irritation and swelling which makes it more itchy.

What do you use on mosquito bites? Does it work?
